The Great Shefford

The Great Shefford in Berkshire has appointed Sam Cary as its new Head Chef.

Sam on fire already

It was wonderful to spend a few days with the team at the Great Shefford last week, an excited team who were awaiting the arrival of their new Chef, Sam Cary.

Having previously worked at Tom Kerridge’s Hand & Flowers in Marlow and Watley Manor, Sam has drawn on his years of previous experience to create accessible yet refined dining options at the gastropub, dictated by the seasons.

A new menu will focus on Sam’s love of utilising British produce, which the venue hopes will elevate modern British pub food to new and exciting heights.

Relax with a pint by the river

“Having Sam now lead the kitchen at The Great Shefford makes me feel like Alex Ferguson when he signed David Beckham,” says my good friend Joshua Khan. “We are delighted to welcome him to the kitchen and are excited about what he brings to The Great Shefford.”

A very dog friendly pub

Located in the Lambourn Valley on the Berkshire Downs, The Great Shefford is set against the backdrop of a brook flowing alongside the restaurant, so if you need a break from the M4, take exit 14 and 15 minutes later you can relax by the river, and you might get a tip from one of the jockey’s who dine at the Great Shefford.

Horse racing theme throughout the pub

On my second day Sam kindly spent some time with me, Giorgi the GM and Ditte the Manager, we talked and shared ideas for a long time it was a pleasure to watch them get to know each other.

Ditte and Georgi preparing for a busy day.

Looking forward to my next visit, good luck,
